If you are one of those people who drink 2-3 bottles of green tea in order to lose weight, you might need to reconsider. Bottled tea probably contains only a small amount of antioxidants. Research presented at the American Chemical Society in Boston showed that bottled green tea contains only a small fraction of polyphenols compared to brewed tea. For the first time, researchers analyzed the levels of antioxidants in bottled green tea and concluded that in some cases you may have to drink 20 bottles of bottled tea in order to take the amount amount of antioxidants contained in a single cup of homemade green tea. The researchers analyzed 6 brands of green tea, and found that half of them contain minimal amounts of antioxidants and the other half very small quantities.
